I attended last week a two-day training on social media. The trainer reminded us that social media succeeded to take over pornography as most popular online content. Yet, one of my colleagues underlined that sex is still likely to be well ahead of all other issues.

One of my daily tasks is managing @Europarl_ES, and this week I have just informed my hierarchy that there are quite a lot of tweets for and against the report Roadmap against homophobia and discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity, by Green Austrian MEP Ulrike Lunacek. This report is on the agenda for next week European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg.

Last December was the last time I spotted so many tweets in a particular issue on the EP’s agenda, the hot topic being the report on Sexual and reproductive health and rights by Socialist Portuguese MEP Edite Estrela.

Online activity keeps focused on sex, but I am happy to see that debates might be shifting towards human rights.
