I look forward to hearing more about these projects, particularly when it comes to curating MEPs' and others' outputs in a single space. I remember discussing it as part of the much-discussed-but-never-implemented bloggingportal2 upgrade a year or 2 back.

Am also glad to see that the recipe idea has been shelved. Anything to get a comment, eh? I look forward to the EP recipe for Euro-biscuits. Narcotised, of course. ;-)

Hi Mathew,

Thanks for your comment!
(This post was published in July... last year. Since then, AOL bought HuffPo for $315 million.)
I don't think we should nor could go to mundane content (recipes) but I do believe we (aka the EP Web Team) could play an aggregative/curating role, by bringing all news and opinions on the EP and the EU from main actors (MEPs but not only) in one single digital place. I also think that lighter and more human content - but still about EU affairs, their consequences, concrete changes in daily life etc - could be part of our editorial strategy. We have several ongoing projects toward those directions and I am afraid I can't say more. But we'll post on those in due time.
Best,
T.

I'm surprised to be the first comment. July syndrome?

Anyway, can you justify the EP webteam extending its "editorial territory" to anything you fancy (recipes??), in an effort to reach a wider audience?

Would readers expect to see 'just about anything' on an EU Institional site? Given that it's costs are covered by taxpayers, and it will compete with independent media (wh pay taxes)?

Apart from being a dream come true for the site's editors ("Go on, we're not going out of business here at the European Parliament, so have fun! Write anything you like!"), is it really going to help explain what the EU does, and why, if you publish recipes?

Just askin'! ;-)
