Rottentomatoes.com actually haven’t got round to it yet, but we are seeing some reaction to our “six-pack” of videos on the web quite rapidly. So far, thanks to the critics, who seem to like what we did. First off the mark was Julien, as ever (thanks to him for spotting the other posts), then Macarena, [...]
It’s a tradition. Now and then we make a video, especially just before Christmas. Sure enough, at the end of last year, we made Writing for (y)EU. Basically, it’s a commercial. It’s about the stuff we do. You may know it; it’s on our Vimeo page and was embedded in a previous post on this [...]
If you work in something called the Web Communications unit, chances are you’ll happen upon one or two co-workers who like gadgets. Well, yes…
Following a reader’s suggestions, we added a “Subscribe to comments” feature thanks to an easy-enough-to-install Word Press plug-in. So, whenever you leave a comment under one of our posts, you can now subscribe to the thread and be informed whenever someone else replies to you or adds another comment. Oh, and let us know if [...]
There is a new exhibition in the House. Since Monday, the EP corridors are filled up with works of art belonging to Polish artists. The Parliament has an art collection of around 360 works and it’s planning to make it available on the internet also for the general public. In the meantime, you can have [...]
Blogging portal.eu agregates the best of euroblogging and, yes, sometimes they featured us on their top page. They celebrate their first birthday and “more than 500 euroblogs, 25 editors and thousands of visitors! ” Happy birthday and long live Blogging Portal.eu!
Wanted to share with you a nice article about blogging and its tactics used for a blog marketing.
Discussing Hearings online: a way to break the Silence? Discussing face to face? The idea was to write a blog about the “backstage” of the hearings: what are visitors’ impressions about this event, what they think about organization…So I took a Dictaphone and went to Parliament’s JAN building to ask visitors to share their impressions. [...]
In this post, we address a situation we’re not happy with: our live video streams are only accessible to users with a PC (or with Windows OS). Warning: this is a geeky post and half of it may be unnacurate.
A while back this blog featured a minor rant about why one shouldn’t hand over one’s powerpoint (or keynote) files to the conference organiser. On the grounds that it’s nice to have one’s prejudices confirmed, but maybe more because this is a wonderful masterclass in making slide-based presentations, this Authors@Google video, “Presentation Zen” by Garr [...]
An interesting showcase of what Parliament currently does online getting underway as I write: the hearings (“auditions” in Franglais) of the commissioners-designate for Barroso’s 2009-2014 Commission. Even with our “old” website, combined with the newer tools we have picked up over last year, there seems to be a reasonable amount we can do. Tibo commented [...]
The process of the hearings of designated commissionners, which starts today and will go on until Tuesday 19 January, gives me a good opportunity to illustrate some of the biggest difficulties in our job as web-editors for the European Parliament website.
Just passing by to say that Steve’s post on helping us in rethinking the EP website is now the most viewed, far front of our previous record: “Sex, porn and Britney Spear“. Take that, Britney! Now, I can talk to my mom about this blog.
It’s a classic fantasy. You can start with a blank sheet, your options open, all choices yet unmade, no idea too crazy, no limits except the limits of your own creativity… I refer, naturally, to designing a website (what else?).
From next Monday until Tuesday 19 January, the MEPs will “hear” the 26 designated commissionners. They will assess their knowledge and skills for the portfolio the candidates have been proposed for. At the time of writing, we are fine tuning the details of the hearings coverage by our different editorial team. If you want to [...]
