there’s a trick regarding the number of kisses. French speaking Belgians usually kiss on one cheek (once) while Flemish (even though they are from the North) more often kiss three times. So if you opt for three as the standard you do as (some of the) Belgians do while you can always stop the exercise when you feel your counterpart has had enough of it with two.

Other option is to start with “Your ID please” (although that might not work with Belgians, cause their name doesn’t always tell you whether they are Flemish or French speaking, nor with the British who don’t have one).
